Fluoride in Water Monitor – FluoriSense
How is fluoride dosed into drinking water? In some parts of the world (including the USA but not Canada), the local health authorities have determined that adding fluoride to drinking water provides sufficient health benefits (reduction in tooth decay) to justify the cost. In these plants the fluoride is added in solution to the water so that the final concentration is approximately 1 mg/L. This is done by using flow proportional dosing. In addition the final concentration is often monitored to validate the flow proportional dosing. The FluoriSense is perfect for this application. By simplifying the sample preparation process (by removing the TISAB used by other analyzers) Pi are able to reduce the cost significantly whilst still providing the accuracy required to validate flow proportional dosing. Please note that by removing the TISAB common in other analyzers the accuracy will be reduced.

The FluoriSense online fluoride monitor is designed to validate the flow proportional controlled dosage of fluoride drinking water.
Its ease of use, and low cost make it ideal for ensuring that the dosing of fluoride in drinking water is to the correct level.
As with all of Pi’s sensors the FluoriSense can be fitted in a variety of flow cells and can come with a range of options including with different controllers and with different I/O and communications options including remote access. Please contact us for more information.
TISAB (Total Ionic Strength Adjustment Buffer) is typically added to samples in fluoride analyzers. This buffer is used by their suppliers to stabilize the ionic strength of the sample to give the most accurate result possible using a fluoride ISE (Ion Specific Electrode). Adding TISAB introduces a complexity and cost that is not always necessary.
The FluoriSense fluoride analyzer doesn’t use TISAB and should only be used to validate a control. Also in some waters the extreme variation in ionic strength could cause sufficient errors for the FluoriSense to be unsuitable.
In the vast majority of cases, the FluoriSense is the perfect method of validating fluoride levels in drinking water after a flow proportional dosing of fluoride.
